Ingredients
For the Steak & Broccoli:
1 lb flank steak or sirloin, sliced thinly against the grain
3 cups broccoli florets
1 tablespoon vegetable or olive oil
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced (optional)
For the Teriyaki Sauce:
½ cup soy sauce
¼ cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
2 tablespoons rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water (slurry)
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon minced ginger
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Broccoli
Bring a pot of water to a boil.
Add broccoli florets and cook for 1–2 minutes, just until bright green.
Drain and immediately rinse under cold water to stop cooking. Set aside.
Step 2: Make the Teriyaki Sauce
In a bowl or measuring cup, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger.
Set aside the cornstarch slurry for later.
Step 3: Cook the Steak
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Season sliced steak with salt and pepper.
Add the steak to the skillet and cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and just cooked through.
Add garlic and ginger and sauté 30 seconds more.
Step 4: Add the Sauce
Pour the teriyaki mixture into the skillet with the steak.
Bring to a simmer.
Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook 1–2 minutes, until the sauce becomes glossy and thickened.
Step 5: Add the Broccoli
Add the broccoli to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce.
Cook another 1–2 minutes, just until heated through and well combined.
Step 6: Serve
Serve warm over steamed rice, noodles, or cauliflower rice.
Garnish with sesame seeds or sliced green onions if desired.
Kitchen Tips
Slice steak very thinly for the most tender bite.
Blanching the broccoli keeps it bright and crisp-tender.
Adjust sweetness by adding more or less honey.
Double the sauce if serving over rice — it’s deliciously addictive!
