Grandmother's Classic Chocolate chip Cookies

There is something special about the smell of chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven. Warm butter, sweet vanilla, and melting chocolate filling the kitchen with a comforting aroma. These simple cookies are soft, golden, and always disappear quickly from the plate.

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/4 cup lightly packed brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with butter.

In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt and set aside.

In another bowl, cream the butter with the granulated sugar and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then add the vanilla extract and mix until soft and well combined.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and stir until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Drop the dough by teaspoonfuls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing the cookies about 2 inches apart.

If you prefer a flatter cookie, gently press each mound of dough with the back of a spoon.

Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Remove from the oven and transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool.

Enjoy warm, with a glass of milk if you like.
